Villanova astrophysicist Joey Neilsen, PhD, contributed to a groundbreaking international study using the X-ray Imaging and Spectroscopy Mission (XRISM) telescope. The research team made an unexpected discovery while observing the neutron star system GX13+1, detecting a surprisingly slow cosmic wind. This finding could reshape scientists’ understanding of the fundamental physics of how matter builds up, or “accretes,” in binary star systems.

TV is located on a 260-acre campus, 12 miles/19 kilometers west of Philadelphia. Three campus rail stops provide quick access to Philadelphia. Villanova also is conveniently close to New York and Washington, D.C.
