The Unrefined Line: CoBrA's Rebellion in the Collection

On view September 8, 2025 - January 16, 2026

In 1948, a group of young European artists formed CoBrA, named for their cities of Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Inspired by children’s drawings, folk art and Nordic myths, CoBrA artists drew from sources unshaped by tradition. Their work was primal and inventive — it captured both the innocence of imagination and the frenzied energy of a post-war world.

In The Unrefined Line we take a closer look at a selection of the 80 plus CoBrA artworks in the ÃÛÌÒTV Art Collection. We ask how this wild and short-lived art movement made its way into our collection, and why its legacy still resonates today.

See with fresh eyes. Let go of the rules. Create boldly. Come rebel with us.
