The Undergraduate Programs team at VSB, comprised of the Clay Center and O’Donnell Center for Professional Development, supports your educational journey by advancing your academic and professional development.

The Clay Center at VSB, located on the first floor of Bartley Hall (Suite 1054), is focused on your academic experience, including academic advising, and the Davis Fund for Student Experiences. You will be assigned an academic advisor who will help you navigate the different paths and opportunities in VSB and Villanova. Your advisor will remain with you throughout your entire academic experience and help you structure your personal, professional, and academic goals. If you ever have a question and don’t know where to start, your academic advisor can be your first point of contact.

VSB’s Charlotte and James V. O’Donnell ’63 Center for Professional Development (ODC), located on the ground floor of Bartley Hall (Suite 0030), creates opportunities to learn about yourself and the business world by engaging with practitioners and applying what you learn in the classroom to the real world. The ODC provides 1:1 professional development coaching and workshops, oversees VSB’s academic internship and CoOp programs, hosts business career education programs, delivers the VSB Mentor Program, and guides the student business societies (organizations). In addition, the ODC collaborates with the ĂŰĚŇTV Career Center to develop employer partnerships and meet your career needs and interests.

The most important way to stay connected is to regularly read your Villanova email. In addition to email, real-time information about VSB activities is provided through the Clay Center/O’Donnell Center and VSB social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter). The weekly email, “Buzz Around Bartley” shares a calendar of advising and professional development events/deadlines. The digital screens throughout Bartley Hall are also a source of information. Handshake, VU’s career management portal, is the primary student resource for employer and career-related event details.

An academic advisor and a peer advisor (an upperclassman VSB student) will be assigned to you prior to New Student Orientation. Faculty mentors in all academic areas are also available to meet with you and guide you regarding discipline-specific coursework and career planning. Visit the VSB Academic Advising homepage to learn more.

Your advisors will be in contact with you throughout the summer via your Villanova email address. You will meet them at New Student Orientation. During registration periods, you will meet individually with your academic or peer advisor. You are encouraged to schedule appointments with your advisors at any time throughout the year.

Your fall schedule is based on information you provided via the Registrar’s Course Selection Survey. Once your schedule is complete in mid-August, you will receive an email from the Registrar’s Office. Requests for schedule changes prior to that time will not be accepted.

VSB’s first year courses and curriculum can be found on the VSB Class of 2029 Curriculum webpage

A typical first semester schedule includes VSB 1000, VSB 1015, ACS 1000, MAT 1500 or STAT 1430, ENG 1975 or THL 1000 or PHI 1000, and ECO 1001 or ECO 1002. Schedules are updated throughout the summer as AP, IB, A-Level, and pre-matriculated credits are received (see further details below in the FAQs).

You may request adjustments to your fall schedule during the drop/add period (first week of classes). Courses may not be dropped or added after Friday, August 29, 2025. A course dropped within the drop/add period will not appear on your transcript. Schedule changes will only be approved if the course requested has an open seat. VSB will not approve schedule changes to ACS 1000 or VSB 1015 sections except in circumstances beyond your control; documentation will be required.

You may receive credit for AP, IB, or A-Level examinations provided you achieved a qualifying score. Villanova course equivalents and qualifying score requirements can be found via the VSB Academic Advising homepage. VSB accepts a maximum of 60 transfer credits (including examination credits).

To initiate this process, please request your official comprehensive score report to be sent directly to Villanova by contacting the relevant examination administrator. Schedules will be adjusted once official exam reports are received by the University. All score reports must be received by the last day of classes in the spring semester of your first year. Credit will not be granted retroactively once an equivalent course has been completed at Villanova.

College-level work completed prior to high school graduation, including college courses that fulfill high school graduation requirements, must meet the following criteria to be considered for transfer credit: (1) The course must be taught by a member of a college or university faculty for college students and enroll college students; (2) If the course is taught on a high school campus, by high school faculty members, and the enrolled students are only high school students, then the course is not eligible for transfer credit.

If the above criteria are met, you may send supporting documents to your academic advisor.

1. An official letter from high school principal, secondary school counselor or other educational professional describing the college-level program of study

 2. An official letter from college/university stating that the courses were taught by members of the regular college faculty, open to enrollment by and graded in competition with regularly matriculated undergraduates at the college and a  regular part of the normal curriculum published in the college catalog

3. A course syllabus

4. An official, seal-bearing transcript from the college/university showing a grade of C or better

5. With respect to courses taught in a distance learning format, and for other requirements, each academic program will review on a case-by-case basis

All pre-matriculated credit must be accepted and approved before the completion of two semesters at Villanova. No business courses will be awarded transfer credit.

If the college-level course you completed in high school do not meet the above criteria, you may decide to pursue a after enrollment at Villanova.

You may take non-business courses during the summer at an accredited institution if you have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Applications to take classes elsewhere must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate academic department and your academic advisor. A grade of “C” or better is required to receive transfer credits; these will not apply to your GPA. This also applies to classes taken during the summer leading up to your first year.

Professional development is a critical element of your VSB experience, demonstrated by the required Backpack-to-Briefcase curriculum. B2B integrates professional development into the core business curriculum throughout your 4-year academic program and provides a structured approach for managing the career development process. B2B requirements are embedded in both semesters of the first year and include an introduction to campus career-related resources, exploration of academic programs and career paths, laying a foundation for your professional portfolio (e.g., resume & LinkedIn profile development), utilizing Handshake (VU’s career management portal), and instruction on business writing. You will continue to focus on your career and professional development through required B2B courses in your sophomore and junior years and optional B2B courses in senior year.

VSB’s O’Donnell Center for Professional Development works closely with the ĂŰĚŇTV Career Center to develop relationships with employers. You will be regularly alerted about externships/ leadership programs (short-term, educational programs offered by employers), as well as internships and CoOp programs that allow you to work in professional business settings on a part-time or full-time basis, during the academic semesters and summer. You may elect to earn academic credit for participation in approved business internships, and/or VSB’s Spring Accounting Internship and CoOp Programs. The O’Donnell Center’s Workshop Series and individual coaching appointments provide you with guidance and support throughout the internship search process.

You will interact with successful alumni and employer representatives through the B2B curriculum and professional development programs including career panels, company information sessions, student competitions, and conferences. You may also participate in employer on-site visits which provide the opportunity to go “on the road” for a first-hand view of key industries (e.g., advertising, financial services, technology, fashion, sports/entertainment, etc.) After declaring a major sophomore year, you will be eligible to join the VSB Mentor Program and build a 1:1 relationship with an alumni mentor to gain industry knowledge, prepare for interviews and internships, and develop professionally. For more information, visit vsbmentorprogram.villanova.edu.

Yes. There will be instances where “business casual” (i.e., dress pants/skirt, button down shirt/blouse, dress shoes, etc.) will be the expected attire; this includes participation in career events associated with B2B. “Business professional” attire (i.e., full business suit) may be required when you are delivering presentations in some business courses and/or if you participate in externship/internship interviews.
