UNITAS

OFFICE OF COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Grounded in our Augustinian Catholic mission and values, we are committed to cultivating a University community environment that encourages and celebrates genuine curiosity about different perspectives, ardent receptivity to knowledge generated through intercultural connections, and a genuine sensitivity to the variety of human experiences.

OUR COMMUNITY, OUR OFFICE

Community is at the core of the Villanova experience as an Augustinian Catholic university. UNITAS: Office of Community Enrichment works to advance mutual respect, connection and belonging throughout our community.

Villanova continues to work proactively to expand our welcome to all. It is through a community of scholars and students with wide-ranging viewpoints and experiences that the Catholic intellectual tradition is best accomplished.

WHY "UNITAS"?

Derived from the Latin word for unity and core to the Augustinian tradition, unitas represents the fundamental importance of community, friendship and shared identity, rooted in dignity and respect for each person. Unitas calls us to foster a deep sense of belonging and mutual respect, encouraging connection across differences in pursuit of the common good. As His Holiness Pope Leo XIV affirmed in his installation Mass, “Unity does not cancel out differences but values the personal history of each person and the social and religious culture of every people.”

CONNECTING ACROSS DIFFERENCES

Villanova actively seeks to foster an environment in which different perspectives are respected, and all voices are valued. Education and training for members of the University community is available to encourage self-reflection, understanding and individual growth.

The Dr. Terry Nance Center for Dialogue engages the Villanova community in the practice of dialogue in the Augustinian tradition. Individuals learn the skills to engage in honest and dignifying conversations as they build relationships and community.
