The graduate programs seek to integrate general education, cultural improvement, and professional excellence. The aims of these programs are:
- To extend and deepen knowledge by scholarly research;
- To assist those who wish to secure specialized training in order to improve their occupational competency;
- To supply the need of advanced training for special purposes, especially in the fields of teaching and other human services;
- To offer the graduate students the opportunity to join with the faculty of the University in the common pursuit of learning wherein the students are encouraged to develop according to their individual capacities and to learn to live and work together in a community of scholars.

Villanova Hosts Mentorship Training for Faculty and Staff
An interactive CIMER workshop equipped 30 faculty and staff with research-based strategies to strengthen graduate student mentorship. The workshop brought together 30 faculty and staff from across the University to strengthen the quality and consistency of graduate student mentorship. Participants alternated between playing the parts of mentees and mentors, then shifted to the role of facilitators, practicing strategies proven to improve mentoring relationships.
Ashon Calhoun ’27 MA Honored with NCTA ChangeMaker Award
The Internet and Television Trade Association is recognizing the ÃÛÌÒTV graduate student for significant social impact and service to others. Calhoun, a mass communications and public affairs specialist for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and a former multimedia fellow for Hearst Television, was nominated by the Emma Bowen Foundation, which connects media and technology industries with a pipeline of emerging leaders in the field.
Villanova Faculty Join National Initiative to Foster Healthy Research Labs and Teams
The Council of Graduate Schools’ (CGS) Healthy Research Teams & Labs initiative is a national effort aimed at promoting inclusive, respectful and supportive research environments for graduate students. The initiative outlines best practices for mentorship, collaboration and student well-being, and is designed to be applicable across all academic disciplines. Joining the initiative within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences are Irene Kan, PhD, professor and chair; Janette Herbers, PhD, associate professor and graduate program director; Erica Slotter, PhD, professor; Pat Markey, PhD, professor; and Deena Weisberg, PhD, associate professor and cognitive science program director.
Villanova Receives ICMA Grant to Explore Opportunities for Economic Mobility in Norristown
The University received a $10,000 Economic Mobility and Opportunity (EMO) Student Engagement Grant from International City/County Management Association (ICMA), an organization committed to building thriving communities by promoting best practices in local governance. Up to 10 Villanova MPA students will work with Norristown officials to assess existing programs and recommend strategies to enhance upward mobility, with a particular focus on housing, small business support, public infrastructure, community engagement and public safety.
